Meet Bright Beginnings Dayhome
An amazing licensed Family Childcare in Calgary, Alberta Canada
On Wednesday, June 19th 2024, I had the opporutnity to be invited into Bright Beginnings Dayhome. Daisyline and her 6 young explores opened their door and welcoming into their world of learning.
As Daisyline and I unpacked the Alberta In Flight Framework, one phrase she said kept coming back to me. "Children are mighty!" You see, Daisyline was sharing her perspective how the framework has influenced her a view on children and their learning. "Janine," she shared, "it really reminded me that children are mightly. They are capable and the curriculum should be about the child." Daisyline reflected on her approach to planning for the children in her care and how she has adapted a child-led approach and works to co-lead with the children.
As Daisyline and her mightly learners walked me through their environment, I could not help but notice the multitude of loose parts and natural materials of various sizes. It showed me that she doesn't just believe that children are capable, but promotes it within her setups and resources. We talked about using smaller objects with such young mighty learners but she shared that when properly supervised and with her engaging with the children, she felt that the children demonstrated a capability to use them safety and with care.
As we sat with the children, interacting with them, I was able to see how the children felt confident moving throughout the space, exploring and manipulating different resources.
I wanted to get a picture on how Daisyline got families involved in her service, knowing that this was a big piece to any early learning service. Once again, I listened to Daisyline, captivated in her passion and her professionalism. She shared how families were invited to be a part of the curriculum ongoing. They were encouraged and have the rights to come in and share their interests such as reading or doing art with the children. Daisyline gave some other examples such as parents coming in to carve pumpkins at Halloween, for individual children's birthays and coming together for shared meals at times such as Christmas. I was very inspired when she shared how it even went as far as families being invited to help build bird houses when they were doing a construction project around birdhouses.
As we moved through the morning together, we finished by talking about the professional development opportunties Daisyline has done. She shared that for her, professional development helps improve herself and think deeper.
As I listened to her share and take in the environment, it was evident why she was successful in obtaining her certification as a "Child Led Practitioner."
It was an amazing opportunity, observing Daisyline, reflecting with her and seeing her committment to early learning.
It was truly an honour to be invited into the Bright Beginnings Day Home and witness firsthand the dedication and passion that Daisyline exudes in her work with her mightly learners. From the moment I stepped through the door, it was evident that every aspect of the day home had been thoughtfully curated with the children's best interests at heart.
I hope to inspire and motivate others through this article to unpack Daisyline's interactions with each child, how she uses her environment to fostering a strong sense of trust and connection with both child and family. You see, her enthusiasm for early childhood education was palpable, makes it is clear that Bright Beginnings Day Home is not just a place of care, but a nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Thank you once again to Daisyline from Bright Beginnings Day Home and the mighty learners for making me feel so welcomed. Until we meet in person again, I will be following, learning and growing along side Daisyline.
